Overview

Portugal's Golden Visa gives non-EU investors and their families the right to live, work and study in Portugal while spending on average only seven days a year in the country. Since the real estate route closed in October 2023, most investors qualify with €500,000 in a regulated Portuguese investment fund. Other routes are a €250,000 cultural heritage contribution (€200,000 in low-density areas), €500,000 for scientific research, or €500,000 of company capital creating five jobs.

AIMA processes applications in around 10 months. Permanent residence is available after five years and citizenship after ten years under the Nationality Law in force since 19 May 2026.
